Hola! Last week marked the official start of Hispanic Heritage Month, which lasts until October 15th. Students spent some time last Thursday and Friday learning about the celebration and researching different holidays in Latin America. Students will present their findings to their classmates this week! In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, students will be working in groups to complete a "Country Project," where each group will be come an expert on one Spanish-speaking country. The assignment (see attached) requires students to research different facts and create an informational poster to share with others. We will have a Hispanic Heritage Month fair in October for students to display their work. In addition to celebration Hispanic Heritage Month, students have been working on describing themselves and expressing likes/dislikes in Spanish. They will be receiving a take-home performance assessment at the end of the week that will be due next Friday, September 30th. Check out the video we have been using to work on descriptions! Finally, I want to thank everyone who came out to Open-House last Wednesday. If you did not receive a course syllabus, please send me an email ([email protected]) and I will be sure to send one to you.

Hola a todos! I hope that you all had a restful weekend and are getting ready for the upcoming week. Please remember that open house is this Wednesday, September 14th. I am very excited to meet all of you in person. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Last week was a busy week for us in Spanish class. We finished up our unit on greetings and introductions and will be moving on to adjectives in Spanish. Students in 8th grade submitted portfolios on Friday, so be sure to check those out when you have the time. In 7th grade, we finished up our alphabet presentations and learned parts of the body in 6th grade. This week also marks the official start of Hispanic Heritage Month, so keep an eye out for some special assignments that will be due over the course of the next few weeks. If anybody has magazines they would like to donate to our classroom, please send them in with your students, Saludos, Senor Grimes. Hola!
I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend. Scholars were very excited that the air show was back in town and hovering over the building this past week! Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade delivered alphabet presentations completely in Spanish this past week and began to use context clues (Cognates) to practice reading in the Target Language. Please continue to encourage your students to complete their homework on time and review their vocabulary. This week we will be focusing on using adjectives in Spanish to describe ourselves. Students will also begin putting together their language portfolios for the half-way mark. If any student (or parent) is looking for additional Spanish practice, I highly recommend downloading the app "Dualingo". I hope to see you all next week at Open House (September 14th) Saludos, Senor Grimes |
